Faculty Spotlight: Dr. Hollie K. Caldwell, Dean of the College of Nursing
Dr. Hollie Caldwell brings more than 30 years of diverse nursing experience spanning clinical practice, leadership, and research. With a background in emergency nursing, trauma care, and nursing education, she is dedicated to advancing the profession through evidence-based practice and innovation. Her leadership and scholarly work help shape a dynamic learning environment that prepares nurses for meaningful impact in today’s health care landscape.
Dr. Hollie Caldwell serves as the Dean of the College of Nursing for Concordia University, St. Paul, which operates in St. Paul, Minnesota and Portland, Oregon. Dr. Caldwell was the Nurse Scientist for Porter Adventist Hospital and Dean of the School of Nursing at Platt College in Colorado. During her 31-year career in nursing, Dr. Caldwell’s clinical specialty was emergency nursing. She has also served as a trauma coordinator, sexual assault nurse examiner, and legal nurse consultant. Her dissertation focus was elder abuse screening in primary care, and she continues to enjoy designing and conducting original research to add to nursing knowledge. She has taught fundamentals of nursing, adult medical-surgical nursing, pathophysiology, pharmacology, research and evidence-based practice, leadership, and nursing ethics and legal issues.
Dr. Caldwell earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Loma Linda University, a Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Phoenix in residence in Sacramento, California, and a PhD in Nursing from the Medical University of South Carolina. She is a veteran of the United States Air Force and served as a member of the trauma team for the United Nations Operation Provide Promise for the conflict in the Balkans. Her publications include her research on patient satisfaction, research ethics, issues in nursing education, elder abuse, palliative care, and a non-fictional observation on death. Dr. Caldwell is an AACN Nurse Executive Wharton Fellow. In 2015, she was elected to serve a three-year term as a Commissioner for the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) and was appointed to the Colorado Board of Veterans Affairs (2015-2020). She currently serves on the AACN Membership Committee, the Western Institute for Nursing (WIN) Research Committee, and the Oregon Patient Safety Commission. She enjoys gardening, fishing, quilting, and time with her husband and three adult children.
