Hospitality management refers to many different types of businesses including hotels, restaurants, casinos, resorts, airlines and tour agencies. Many jobs in the hospitality industry are related to restaurant and food service. Though this industry suffered job losses due to the Great Recession, it is growing at about an average pace compared to the average occupational field in the United States.
Graduates with a Bachelor of Arts in Hospitality Management are prepared to become or continue to be effective supervisors and managers in this industry. This includes having the ability to succeed in careers in hotels, restaurants, resorts, gaming businesses, attractions and tourism or leisure centers.
Lodging managers can be hotel managers, resort managers, convention service managers and more. Their general duties include inspecting rooms, lobbies, and public areas and grounds to make sure the areas are up to cleanliness standards and regulations. In some cases, lodging managers are responsible for setting rates for rooms, suites and group meeting rooms, as well as allocating funds for different departments and staff.

This occupational field is projected to grow 10 percent by 2024, according to the BLS. The average salary of an event organizer is $46,840. In some cases, event organizers work seasonally and focus on specific kinds of events like summer weddings.
