Wherever You Go to Learn, Professor Hampton Meets You TherePosted May 28, 2014 | By csponline
For many students, the choice to study online can be difficult. Professor Philip Hampton has seen firsthand, however, the benefits of this flexible learning format.
“The online educational experience has made it possible for students to achieve a quality education from any place on the globe. It has given many individuals who may not have had the time to get an education the opportunity to learn at their own pace or when it is convenient,” he says. “The online experience has allowed students the power to demand and expect more from their educational experience.”
Professor Hampton’s educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and a Master of Business Administration in International Management with a focus on economics and finance. His interest in education began while he was working in the investment banking industry. He began mentoring students from a local high school and realized that he was passionate about passing on his knowledge and experience. He began teaching at Concordia in 2007. Professor Hampton teaches a number of courses at CSP, including subjects such as macroeconomics, corporate finance and investment.
But not all online programs are created equal. At CSP, you can complete your degree on your schedule. Flexibility is key for busy, working adults who already have a full schedule. CSP provides you with the high-quality education you need in a format that is convenient for your life. You won’t be tied down to the classroom and you can study anywhere that has an Internet connection. This flexibility and CSP’s commitment to excellence, Professor Hampton says, is ideal for adult learners.
“It lives up to it values of being responsive, relevant, and real. CSP is dedicated to providing an educational experience that is responsive to the needs of our students. It also provides our students with real preparation for a thoughtful and successful life, whether that is in business, literature, politics, sports, medicine, the arts or a life dedicated to spiritual service. Our faculty and staff are devoted to providing an educational experience that is relevant to the demands of the marketplace,” Professor Hampton explains.
Once you’ve made the decision to study online, Professor Hampton also has suggestions for making the most of your educational experience.
“The best tip I can give students seeking to take any course online is to know your style of learning. All of us do not learn the same. A student needs to have a general understanding of how they learn. This goes a long way to success online. I say this because online learning requires a certain level of dedication and commitment,” he says.
The support doesn’t stop once you’ve graduated, either. Professor Hampton also has advice for students who are entering (or re-entering) the workforce after graduation:
- Be a sponge. Try to learn as much as you can, because learning does not stop the moment you graduate.
- Seek out a mentor. Seek out someone in upper management to mentor your career along. You will find the advice of a mentor may be priceless in helping you navigate life at your firm as well as exposing your career to possible opportunities for advancement.
- Don’t be afraid to take a chance. Don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone and take a risk. You might never know what life has in store for you if you always play it safe. The world is so vast and full of wonderment. Yet, an individual will never know this if they play it safe. Take a chance. You never know, you just might change your life.
The most important step in continuing your education is getting started. At CSP, we understand that the idea of going back to school can be intimidating. That’s why our professors are committed to offering mentoring and support to ensure your academic success. Whether you choose to study at home on a snow day, at the library on a Tuesday evening or while you’re waiting for the bus, Concordia will meet you there. That’s the subject of our newest commercial, which features Professor Hampton himself.
