The Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) program consists of 36 credit hours and is offered fully online. The Online MSN degree is designed for professional nurses who are ready to advance their career and require the flexibility of attending classes on their schedule. This program gives students the skills to lead teams in the complex and evolving health care system.

Curriculum Overview


The MSN online program prepares working nurses for informal and formal leadership roles in a variety of healthcare settings. The curriculum emphasizes active learning and practical application so that students have the knowledge and experience to improve health outcomes. The coursework prepares graduates to lead innovative teams in care coordination, quality improvement and population health. Students also complete hands-on practice experiences (practicums) through simulations, the workplace and their local community.   1. Online Application
  2. Submit official transcripts from the regionally accredited institution stating the conferral of a Bachelor’s degree in nursing with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  3. An unencumbered active registered nursing license in MN * (If licensed in a state outside of MN, please contact your enrollment counselor to check eligibility)
  4. A signed Student Work and Practice Experience Acknowledgment form. Applicants need at least one year of nursing experience within the last 5 years.
  5. Personal statement that includes the following requirements:
    1. The statement falls between 400 and 1000 words.
    2. Includes a beginning (introduction), middle (body), and end (summary/conclusion) in the personal statement.
    3. This statement is original (no plagiarism) and reflective of the applicant’s experiences and traits. No outside work (citations and references) is allowed.
    4. The submission is professional with no spelling, grammar, or sentence structure errors.
    5. Essays should address the following points:
      • Describe your employment history and why you are choosing to pursue a graduate degree at this time in your career.
      • Describe a personal and/or professional goal that you hope you will fulfill through earning your graduate degree.
      • Describe a past or present personal/professional experience that you believe positively influenced your potential to succeed in a graduate program
